It was only Dyson’s reputation that swung me. Well worth the money, this little beast boasts above-average suction for the size of the motor and has good battery life, relatively speaking. The battery life is more than ample to thoroughly clean every nook and cranny of the interior of my car and still have a little left to fetch up the crumbs on my kitchen side before it needs recharging – and recharging is fast (again, relatively speaking). As well as the innovative standard tool cum retractable brush tool there is a long wand so that you really can reach every nook and cranny. As I said, I purchased primarily to use this in my car as it is awkward to get a mains vacuum to it but I’ve used this everywhere from the kitchen to cobwebs to taking out a moth annoyingly orbiting the light fitting. It is very versatile and always there when you need a vacuum but the job doesn’t justify fetching the mains cleaner out of the cupboard.

I think the DC44 is the overall best choice, since it can be used as either a stick vacuum for cleaning floors or as a handheld for blinds, furniture, and anything else above the ground. It’s not cheap, but it’s still very lightweight and is even more powerful with better battery life than the DC34.

Like you, we had a cat, but we also had a husky. I happened to vacuum with our previous, $20 Walmart special vacuum earlier that morning & my husband used the Dyson later that afternoon (it was his idea to get the Dyson so he got first try). I thought I had gotten all of the fur up from our carpet (a FULL canister total that was 2-3 days worth), but after my husband vacuumed, it was still a full canister PER FLOOR with the Dyson. Best $600 we spent, knowing that it did it’s job.
